On January 1st, I asked a question on my Instagram story: With 2024 starting today, what small steps are you taking to achieve your goals?
A brand new year brings new hopes, new aspirations, and new goals. As an entrepreneur, you should’ve set some goals for this year already. But the question is – what will you do today to get yourself closer to your goals? The first week of the year is the perfect time to develop a positive mindset and build momentum for a great year ahead.
Thinking big when it comes to your goals is a life hack.
David J. Schwartz said that you need to “Believe big. The size of your success is determined by the size of your belief. Think little goals and expect little achievements.”
But remember, while your goals should be big enough to scare you, the daily steps you take to achieve those goals are usually small.
So let me ask you, have you clearly defined your goals?
Do you know what you want to achieve this year?
If the answer is no, take some time to define your goals in detail.
Your goals should be measurable, specific, and challenging. Seriously, if they don’t scare you even a little, think BIGGER.
Once you’ve defined your goals, create a plan of action that will help you achieve them. Break your goals down into smaller milestones that you can work towards every day, week, and month.
For example, let’s say you have a goal to get to your first $10k month in profit this year. Start by looking at your current pricing and determine how much you will need to sell in a month to reach $10k in revenue. Then take into account all of your overhead. From there, determine how much more you need to sell to reach $10k profit. Maybe you’ll realize you need to raise your prices or are spending money on unnecessary expenses.
Setting big goals is useless without knowing what you need to do consistently to make them a reality.
When you hear the word “small” in the context of achieving your goals, don’t think “unimportant” or “insignificant”. Think of a beautiful painting. It can be of anything: a forest, a bowl of fruit, a waterfall, anything!
When you’re up really close to the painting, you see a lot of individual brush strokes. It may even look a little sloppy with many of them going in different directions and being different colors. But when you step back and see the full canvas, you see the beauty of the painting and what each brush stroke worked together to create.
Think of your daily actions towards your goals as a single brush stroke.
Taking consistent action toward your goals every day is essential for long-term success. Dedicate some time each day to work on your goals, no matter how small the action may seem. Remember, small steps lead to massive accomplishments.
Once you have your big goals and small steps in place, here is how you can transform yourself into a person who creates a vision for their life and makes that vision a reality:
- Focus on the Process: Most people get caught up in the end goal and forget to enjoy the journey leading up to it. Remember, the process is just as important as the outcome. Stay present and enjoy the small victories along the way. Celebrate every win, no matter how small it is. Doing so will help you stay motivated and committed to your goals.
- Seek Inspiration: Surround yourself with people who inspire you and who are already achieving greatness in their respective fields. Attend events, conferences, and meetups related to your industry and soak in as much knowledge and inspiration as you can. You can also read books, listen to podcasts, or watch documentaries that motivate you to keep going. Always be seeking inspiration. This will help you stay motivated and focused on your goals.
- Don’t Give Up: Finally, don’t give up. Achieving greatness in 2024 will not be easy, but it will be worth it. There will be times when you feel like giving up, but remember why you started in the first place. Don’t let the fear of failure or the fear of the unknown stop you from achieving your dreams. Keep going, and with time and dedication, you will get there.
Achieving greatness in 2024 requires thinking big and taking small steps daily toward your goals. Define your goals, break them down into smaller milestones, take consistent action towards them, focus on the process, seek inspiration, and most importantly, don’t give up.
The journey to achieving your goals may be long, but every step you take brings you closer to your destination. Start the first week of the year off right, develop a positive mindset, and create momentum for a great year ahead.
You’ve got this!
